It’s been a little over a year since THE VOID officially became a company. We’ve come a long way in such a short time and wanted to share the highlights from 2016.
1. exhibiting at ted2016
We started off the year with a bang at TED2016. The conference gave us the chance to debut hyper-reality to thought leaders from around the world. Attending this event was a turning point for THE VOID.
- Shipping and setting up our first stage abroad
- Putting 800 people through a demo of “Curse of the Serpent’s Eye,” (not to mention Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg!)
- Receiving press coverage from the likes of BBC News and Forbes to name a few
2. Announcing sony partnership
In May we announced our partnership with Sony Pictures and Madame Tussauds New York. We gave a sneak peek at Ghostbusters: Dimension and shared some of the concept art from the hyper-reality experience.
3. opening Ghostbusters: Dimension in NYC
In July, Madame Tussauds opened their brand new Ghostbusters exhibit in Times Square. Sony’s representatives were there with us to open our very first hyper-reality experience to the public.
Over the past five months, thousands of people have gone through Ghostbusters: Dimension. The positive reception, as well as the data gathered from each guest, has been incredibly valuable.
Another exciting first surrounding Ghostbusters: Dimension was the release of our first experience trailer, which shows the melding of physical and digital worlds.
4.expanding the company
It was also a significant year for the team. We brought on a bunch of new talent and now have over 100 employees.
With that group is the addition of six engineers based out of Austin that support the VOID studios team back in Utah.
We also moved locations! With a growing team, we needed a place where everyone would fit comfortably and had ample space for development and collaboration.
Plans are also still progressing for our Pleasant Grove location. Earlier this year the city approved our building plans and the street name for our permanent home.
While 2016 was a big year, we cannot wait for 2017 to arrive so we can share all that’s in store. Keep following @VoidVR to stay in the loop on what’s next!
